Hello Memphis!
My name is Kimberly Gardner.
I am a local Memphian and educator who is passionate about social justice and seeing my city thrive. While doing research for my MA thesis, I saw how a need for equity could be the solution to uplifting businesses and local economies.
I believe that by reducing barriers we can welcome some amazing international talent to the workforce, boosting our local and state economies while creating inclusive workplaces that benefit from the wealth of cultural diversity.
With my background in Teaching English as a Second Language, I decided to investigate why highly skilled immigrants' talent is being wasted and to do something about it.
Originally, this website was created as part of my research, "Brain Waste among Highly Skilled Immigrants" for my Masters in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at the University of San Francisco. However, the more I learned about this issue, the more I realized that businesses hold the key to resolving brain waste.
While there may be a labor shortage in the US, there is by no means a talent shortage. By investing in English upskilling initiatives, companies can elevate internationally trained professionals to fill much needed positions while at the same time increasing their retention.
